European Heritage Days at La Boissière Abbey
A history of Cistercian abbeys through a tour of La Boissière Abbey. The guided tour, led by the owners, takes place every hour. It begins in the gardens and continues into the convent chapel, where visitors can admire two remarkable 14th-century recumbent statues. Finally, a visit to the outdoor chapel, built in the 13th century to allow the faithful to venerate a fragment of the Cross of Christ, brought back from the Holy Land in 1244 by the knight Jean d’Alluye.
