Description

Situated at the gateway to Anjou, this thousand-year-old city is proud of its heritage.
Baugé is listed as a "small town of character", "one of France's most beautiful detours" and a "2-flower town in bloom". Its pre-renaissance château, with its Plantagenet vaulted staircase, was built by René d'Anjou in 1454 on the ruins of an 11th-century fortress. In 2021, thanks to a new visitor trail, the Palace of King René will be unveiling its splendour and splendour. Young and old alike can take advantage of a variety of media - audio guides, digital books, mapping, hands-on activities and games - to immerse themselves in the exciting life of a lord and his castle in the 15th century. You will then discover the 17th-century Hôtel Dieu, home to one of the finest apothecaries in France, with its collection of over 650 jars. This exceptional tour will plunge you into the secrets of medicine and pharmacopoeia in the 17th century, when science was still in its infancy and popular beliefs were still very much alive.
