Description
With *Doubles*, composer and performers explore how words, slogans and accents shape our collective identities and lives. Based on lyrical portraits of inhabitants, this video-opera invites us to reflect on reality. Booking recommended.
Through this musical theatre project, the Spanish composer invites audiences to share music together in a different way.
*DOUBLES* is an encounter with reality through a series of interviews with people from a variety of backgrounds. On stage, these words become the material for a musical theatre in which the singers converse with video interviews, allowing us to hear and see the lives of those who are rarely heard. The show examines what makes us who we are: our memories, our beliefs, our ties to others. It gradually builds up a sensitive fresco of intimate stories and everyday thoughts. In the background, a postcolonial history emerges, discreetly, through the trajectories and memories that emerge.
Álvaro Martínez León is interested in the way in which we share music, and the meanings that this art form can produce depending on the context. His work produces immersive and/or participatory experiences - scores that are as much sound as choreography, where the everyday and the extraordinary come together.
