Description

Former Royal Abbey Church of Notre Dame de Vaas. Abbey church restored in the 12th century (Angevin vaulted architecture known as Plantagenet - 14th century frescoes - Recent glass and stained glass windows.
An altarpiece brought back after the demolition of the parish church of Saint-Georges (sold and destroyed during the Revolution) can be seen, as well as terracotta statues (including a 16th-century Virgin and Child). In the 18th century, the canons regular, Premonstratensians of the Order of Saint Augustine, occupied the abbey (which was then dedicated to the Immaculate Conception). The abbot's residence (Hôtel de Ville), the medieval tower (headquarters of the Vallée du Loir) and the park and gardens on the banks of the Loir still remain from this former religious complex.
