Around a château dating from the 16th century, visit the French-style gardens with their maze of hedges and an Italian-style garden. Pays de la Loire Parks and Gardens" label. Exceptional staircase with sculpted coffered vaults.
At the foot of a tufa cliff, architects and gardeners have been working together since the 16th century to create an immense theatrical setting. At the bottom, a regular garden with a 6-metre-high bower leads the visitor through a lively maze of green rooms. Above, a terrace shaded by lime trees, running alongside a large neo-Gothic wall dating from 1830, allows visitors to appreciate the harmonious layout. Since 1930, a more intimate garden, sheltered from view, has been set slightly lower down. The château comprises a high pavilion flanked by 2 symmetrical wings that are slightly lower. Numerous openings elegantly punctuate the building's facades. On the rear façade, an Italian-style gallery converts into a terrace at the top.
