Description
Opéra de Baugé 2026 - Handel's "Acis, Galatea and Poliphamus" in Baugé
Handel's Acis, Galatea and Poliphamus
A pastoral world, luminous melodies, voices combining gentleness and tension, classical costumes to set the scene - what more could you ask for?
Handel was so fascinated by this Greek myth that he returned to it four times. Our production brings together the finest moments from each of his versions, creating a vibrant pastiche that highlights the story's charm, humour and darker side.
At its heart, it's a kind of Beauty and the Beast - only here the beast is truly fearsome, and the ending far from simple. Expect a mixture of seduction, danger, tenderness and strangeness, carried by some of Handel's most inspired pages.
