At the confluence of the Sarthe, Loir-et-Cher and Indre-et-Loire, you can take advantage of the hiking trails right from the front door. Take a refreshing dip on the banks of the River Braye and extend your walk as far as Ile Verte, where Ronsard's stele on the River Loir will deliver its ode to you.
A few ideas to share with you, on the Sarthe side:
2 km away, the Château de Poncé, open to visitors in season, and the church with its freshly renovated frescoes and murals.
The lakes at Ruillé sur Loir and La Chartre-sur-le-Loir are great places to go for an easy walk. You can also enjoy a picnic or a spot of fishing!
The old railway line has been converted into a Voie Verte. For dozens of kilometres, pedestrians and cyclists can discover the Loir valley. Dogs must be kept on a lead for everyone's safety.
Good restaurants, ahem! They are all around Pont de Braye, Ruillé sur Loir, la Chartre-sur-le-Loir, Lhomme, Chahaignes....
A few ideas to share with you, on the Loir-et-Cher side:
The village of Trôo, listed as a "Petite Cité de caractère" (small town of character), opens its paths for you to discover troglodyte houses, the talking well, the Collegiate Church and, at the very top, the orientation table on the famous mound of Trôo, whose landscape is listed by the Fine Arts. Don't forget to stop off at the station to see a real 1950s railcar!
Montoire-sur-le-Loir, the museum of the historic station, its model and its collection of items from the 1940s. The famous Folklore Festival, which has been held every summer for over 50 years, the Saint-Gilles chapel, its frescoes and its link with the poet Pierre de Ronsard.
Right next door, Lavardin, the Most Beautiful Village in France in the Loir-et-Cher region, surrounded by greenery and refreshed by the banks of the River Loir, its Poets' Walk and the impressive ruins of its medieval castle.
Good food, yes! In Trôo, Montoire-sur-le-Loir, Lavardin and Vendôme, you'll find plenty to satisfy your taste buds.
Here are a few ideas to share with you, on the Indre-et-Loire side:
In Tours, the ancient Gallo-Roman city that is now a university town, you can admire the Loire, the longest river in France, flowing from the Ardèche to the Loire-Atlantique.
Then there's Amboise, with its château and Leonardo da Vinci's last story at Le Clos Lucé.
A holiday rich in nature and culture, not forgetting the Loire Wine Route, following itineraries through the vineyards of the Loire hillsides, cellars and picturesque estates.
