Opéra de Baugé 2025 - "Don Giovanni" à Baugé

Set in 16th-century Seville, Don Giovanni is Mozart's retelling of an old Spanish legend about a libertine, but, as you might expect in Mozart's hands, the story is enriched with social commentary, a gallery of vivid characters and down-to-earth humour. Don Giovanni has clearly been a shameless and highly effective seducer, but by the time we meet him in the opera, his luck is changing and each new escapade propels him towards the destruction he deserves.
Yuriy Yurchuk, who caused a sensation as the Marquis of Posa in our production of Verdi's Don Carlo last year, will sing Giovanni, a role he has just sung in Savonlinna. Denis Sedov, in the role of the Commendatore, will be joined by his wife, Alexandra Kovalevich, to sing Donna Elvira. Béatrice de Larragoȉti plays Zerlina and Volodymyr Morozov returns to Bauge in the role of Masetto. Don Ottavio is played by Pablo Bemsch, last year's Don Carlo. James Roser, who played Dulcamara last year, makes his debut as Leporello.
Thomas Payne, Principal Conductor of the Royal Opera House, makes his debut at the Bauge Opera House as Music Director.
